Lenten Practice: Day 1

Lenten Practice:  A Photo a Day Reflection

Ash Wednesday:  March 5
Our Ash Bucket - Everyday now that that the weather is cold we light a wood fire at night.  It takes the chill of the house and brightens the room and creates comfort in the evening hours.  But every night before I can light the fire I first must empty the woodstove of all the ashes.  Sometimes there is a half a bucket full of ashes.  I wonder how much ash we as human dispose of when as try to create comfort for ourselves.  How am I like the logs on the fire burning away my energy and producing as ash as leftover.  What do we shed as the burning off of our life force - where does it go and is it a destructive or productive by-product of the energy we consume?

Psalm 51:10 -12:  "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me.  Do not cast me away from your presence, and do not take your holy spirit from me.   Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and sustain in me a willing spirit.
